Academy Lose To League Leaders

The Academy proved to be no match for league leaders Clifton at Notts Sports Club.

Notts premier League
Clifton Village 157-2 (20pts) beat Notts Academy 151 (1pt)

Winning the toss and batting, Notts were soon in trouble as Martin Weightman ripped out the first three batsmen all bowled at the personal cost of 8 runs.

Scott Elstone and Ollie Swann did their best to repair the damage until Swann was out for 19 with the score on 78 and then Michael Robson added 35 for the fourth wicket when skipper Elstone attempted to chip Turner over mid-off and was out caught for 51 made from 64 balls with seven fours.

Apart from Robson (23) and a late effort from Adam Shepherd (21), Notts collapsed to 151 all out.

Liam Andrews had figures of 4-31 and Alex Turner returned 3-41.

Dan Birch and Alistair Walters then put Notts’ score into perspective as they reached 50 from 8 overs and the hundred in the 19th. Birch was his usual belligerent self scoring 80 from 78 balls before occasional bowler Adam Tillcock bowled him with his first ball.

Tillcock followed this by bowling Walters for 53 but this was the only bright feature as Clifton knocked off the runs in the 29th over.
